Images 1985-2017

These are about the basics of photography--seeing, arranging, weighing. Subject and light, the frame, pictorial space, memory.

This is what painters have done for centuries.

Traveling is about immersion, displacement, movement. I take an old 4x5 inch camera, a reporter’s tripod, a few boxes of film, and a hand light meter--plus odds and ends like black tape and several Wratten neutral density filters.

These are purist photographs, photographs for people who like to look above all else. Photographer’s photographs, actually, because they end up being about photography. For more, click here. For Erie Canal photos click here.
